The exposure time is relatively long when using IR filters, a tripod is necessary in this situation. We also suggest using a cable release in case of shaking.
Common IR Filter Problems
Hot spots
Hot spots are a relatively common problem with infrared. This is due to the internal reflection of light within a lens. Normal lenses have coated barrels to absorb light, but these coatings don't always work in infrared, causing these problems.
Solution:
1. Hot spots can often be eliminated by changing the aperture.
2. Hot spots most often occur at the same shooting angles that cause lens flare. In this case, hot spots can usually be avoided by shooting away from bright light sources.
Exposure:
On converted cameras, exposure meters still operate based on visible light. This can sometimes cause under- or overexposure because the visible and infrared light in a scene may not be the same.
